We are pleased to say that the weekly Youth Shed in Sleights is on the way to being delivered!
It will be on a Friday evening at Sleights Scout Hut in Narrowfields, opening in later September. This will complement the Scouting activities for Cubs and Beavers held there and, of course, Kidz Making Good itself.
The Youth Shed will cater for 8 – 15 year olds and will encourage active participation.
It is pleasing that there is community interest, particularly from some of the local parents and grandparents and we would welcome other help too, even on an occasional or specific activity basis.
Here is the Whitby Gazette article of August 1st.
Here is the banner we now have (though reduced for superimposing on the photograph:-).

We have received a launch greeting for Sleights Youth Shed from the UK Men’s Shed Association.
Dear Young Shedders,
We congratulate you on the recently announced launch of the weekly Youth Shed in Sleights. It is quite unusual in our experience. Well done.
The UK Men’s Shed Association knows the benefit that Sheds are to older people, many of whom feel cut off from everyday life and social contact. We believe that adapted Sheds can also benefit young people and we hope you can help prove that!
We were pleased to suggest to the Whitby area two UK organisations which helped plant the seed of the Kidz Making Good workshop programme and now the weekly Sleights Youth Shed. Both add to local opportunities for out-of-school activities.
We know the effort Whitby Area Sheds and Eskmouth (Whitby) Scouts have put in to create practical, hands-on, fun activities for you. We are pleased to learn of the support parents, friends and community organisations are offering your Youth Shed.
Please keep in touch with us and share how Sleights Youth Shed gradually develops and the benefits you discover as young Shedders. We hope you will be an example of what can also be done in other places in the UK.
With best wishes,
Charlie Bethel Kate Gordon
CEO National Shed Development Manager
The website address has just been registered and a “blank” site exists that we hope young people will help run and supply content for.
